The lull in rainfall activity over the Western Ghats continued through the weekend pushing maximum temperature up to 32° C and 31°C in Colaba and Santacruz respectively on Sunday. In July the city had a rainfall deficit of 276.5 mm. The deficit was 79.9 mm in the suburbs .

Dr RV Sharma, deputy director general of IMD Mumbai, said,“We don’t see any new systems developing on the west coast at present. There isn’t much activity on the Bay of Bengal. In the absence of low pressures we don’t anticipate heavy showers for the time being. However,we will keenly watch the activities over the next 2-3 weeks. Hopefully the lull period will pass.”

On Sunday, the city saw only sporadic showers recording 0.4 mm and 0.6 mm in the city and suburbs respectively between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm. The Met department forecast light to moderate rain or thundershowers in the city. The rest of Maharashtra received slight rainfall on Sunday while the catchment areas barely received any showers,IMD reported.
