A case was registered under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act against the police officer, and she was arrested. File photoA 33-year-old woman police sub-inspector was arrested by the Mumbai unit of Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) for allegedly demanding a Samsung phone from a cable operator under the guise of favouring him in a case.
The ACB officials said that as the man did not wish to give in to her demands, he lodged a complaint following which the police officer was arrested.
According to the officials, the woman police sub-inspector, Rajshree Shintre, was posted at Amboli police station in the western suburbs of the city. The complainant in the case has a cable network and internet business in the Amboli area and in April, a case of extortion was registered against him at the Amboli police station. He was also arrested in the case.
However, after coming out on bail, Shintre, who was probing the matter, allegedly demanded a Samsung A55 from the complainant. She allegedly told him that she would help him in the case if he could get her the phone.
As he was unwilling to pay the bribe, he then approached the Mumbai unit of the ACB office on May 3 and submitted a written complaint against Shintre. “The complaint was initially verified after which Shintre was caught red-handed while accepting a dummy mobile phone on Wednesday,” an ACB official said.
The officer was brought to the ACB office following which a case was registered under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, and she was arrested.
