Stomachache complaint,checkup order

Ajmal Kasab, the only terrorist arrested for 26/11,complained of stomachache in court on Thursday and the judge directed the Arthur Road Jail authorities to carry out a check-up and a diagnosis.

Ajmal Kasab, the only terrorist arrested for 26/11,complained of stomachache in court on Thursday and the judge directed the Arthur Road Jail authorities to carry out a check-up and a diagnosis.

Kasab had stomach ulcers when he was in the custody of the crime branch. He looked in pain during the second session of the court proceedings.

“Sir mujhe cell mein jane dijiye, pet mein dard ho raha hai” (Allow me to go to my cell I have a pain in my stomach).

“Is it paining too much?”

“Ji sir, cell mein jake aaram karna hai” (Yes I want to go and relax in my cell).

Special public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam intervened: “Sir,when he was in the custody of the crime branch,he was suffering from stomach ulcers and he was diagnosed with it.” Police inspector Prashant Marade seconded Nikam’s claim. Kasab joined in: “He (Marade) knows of my condition.”

Judge M L Tahaliyani then told Kasab: “Please wait for five minutes till the recording of evidence is over and immediately after that I will send you to your cell.” He directed the court officer to inform the jail superintendent to take proper care of Kasab. The jail doctor should properly diagnose him,the court ruled.

Nikam assured the court,“Kasab is no regular undertrial. He will be taken care of.”

It is not the first time that Kasab has complained to the court of ill health. Recently he even wept in the court saying he was giddy.

The prosecution on Thursday examined three witnesses, including Marade. One was a JJ Hospital doctor,V N Asgaonkar, who had conducted an autopsy on the bodies of people killed at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus and recovered a bullet allegedly fired from Kasab’s AK-47.

The third witness was police constable Gangaram Patil of D B Marg police station.

Notes from The courtroom
Wet and dry

Judge Tahaliyani is reportedly upset with a small canopy meant to protect his car from the rain. Built inside the prison where the trial is on,it protects only the rear of the bulletproof car while the front gets wet. When he leaves, the car has a “wet and dry” look. He has told jail officials to build a larger canopy.
