‘Spurned’ by girl,youth attacks her at wedding

“The incident took place on Friday evening at the wedding hall inside Prabodhan Thackeray garden in Sewri where Seema’s wedding reception was on. Rahul had come to the reception under the guise of congratulating her and handing over a gift,” a police officer from the RAK Marg police station,where the case has been registered,said.

When Rahul stepped on the stage and went near her,he allegedly took out a knife hidden under his gift and assaulted Seema,slashing her cheek,police said,adding guests overpowered him. The guests informed police who arrested Rahul on charges of causing grievous hurt. Seema was taken to KEM Hospital where she was discharged after treatment.

“Rahul knew Seema as they used to stay in the same locality at Sewri. Around five years back,he had proposed to Seema but she rejected it due to certain reasons. Rahul had been dejected as she had not reciprocated his feelings and,recently,he found out from some common acquaintances that Seema was getting married and decided to seek revenge,” a police officer investigating the case said on the condition of anonymity.

A relative of Seema,requesting anonymity,said: “It is an unfortunate. Seema is disturbed by what happened. Though her injury is not deep,she is under emotional strain due to what Rahul did. At the reception,everyone was taken aback by the assault. Thankfully the guests managed to restrain him before he could do any more damage.”
