Speeding biker knocks down Munde’s daughters; held

Daughters of BJP leader Gopinath Munde,Pritam Munde and MLA Pankaja Munde Palve, were knocked down by a biker on Friday night while they were taking a stroll near their house at the Worli sea face,police said. They have been admitted to Lilavati Hospital in Bandra for treatment,while biker Shyamsundar Pilla,a 20-year-old student from Worli,has been arrested.

“Pritam and Pankaja were taking a stroll near their Purna Apartments residence at around 11:45 pm,when the biker,who was speeding,lost control and rammed his bike into them from behind,knocking them down,” said an officer from the Worli police station,requesting anonymity. The two were rushed to hospital where they are undergoing treatment and are said to be out of danger. While Pankaja suffered minor injuries,Pritam has suffered a fracture,the police said.

The biker was apprehended by passersby after he fell of his bike due to the impact. He was handed over to Worli police who charged him with rash and negligent driving. The police,however,do not believe he was under the influence of alcohol at the time.

“From what we have gathered,Pilla was in a hurry as he had to buy medicines for someone in his family and lost control of his bike,thus ramming into the two women. We have sent him for medical tests to verify if he had consumed any alcohol,” said the officer.
