Sisters drown in ditch

Two sisters,who had gone out to play near their residence,allegedly drowned in a ditch filled with rainwater at Waliv village in Vasai. The police claimed the girls slipped into the ditch while playing on Monday morning. Their cries alerted the workers nearby who pulled out them out and rushed them to a hospital. They were declared dead on arrival.

A police officer from the Manikpur police station said,“The girls,identified as Ujala Gautam (5) and Nikita Gautam (4),stayed at Waliv village. Their father,Manoj,is a daily wage labourer and the mother is a housewife. The incident took place on Monday morning when the two girls had gone out of the house to play. While chasing each other,the girls fell into a 2-foot deep ditch filled with rainwater. Though a few workers rushed to their help and took them to a hospital,they were declared dead on arrival.”

The police have registered a case of accidental death. “The initial post mortem revealed that the death was caused due to drowning. The bodies were handed over to the parents,” said the officer.
