CM Eknath Shinde-led Sena MLAs submit replies on disqualification notices
As the Shinde-led Sena MLAs have submitted voluminous replies, the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena UBT and other opposition leaders have been alleging that it is another tactic used by the Shinde-led Sena to delay the decision on disqualification pleas.

CHIEF MINISTER Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena MLAs, who are facing disqualification pleas, have submitted their 6,000-page reply to the notice issued by Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar.
Narwekar said the replies are being scrutinised and the hearing on the disqualification pleas would be started soon once the replies are scrutinised. Narwekar assured that there would be no delay in the disqualification proceedings and the decision would be taken as per the merit and following the Constitution. The hearings will start soon.
“We have received the replies and we are scrutinising it. All the MLAs including Uddhav Thackeray-led Sena would be summoned for the hearing soon and they would be questioned based on their replies,” another official from state legislature said.
As the Shinde-led Sena MLAs have submitted voluminous replies, the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena UBT and other opposition leaders have been alleging that it is another tactic used by the Shinde-led Sena to delay the decision on disqualification pleas.
Shinde-led Sena MLA Sanjay Shirsat, however, said there is no delay tactic and the opposition is making unnecessary allegations.
“All the MLAs have filed separate replies to the notices. We have to give the reply carefully and by attaching the proper documents. There is no unnecessary delay,” Shirsat said.
Even as Narwekar has been claiming that the decision will be taken based on merits and as per the Constitution and that the procedure of the disqualification is on, the Opposition, however, has alleged that Narwekar is using delay tactics in taking a decision.
Narwekar had issued notices to the 54 Shiv Sena MLAs which includes 40 from Shinde-led Sena and 14 from Uddhav Sena.
The notices were issued under the Members of Maharashtra Legislative Assembly (Disqualification on Grounds of Defection) Rules and the MLAs were asked to present their side in writing to the Speaker’s office within seven days, a source said.
While pronouncing the verdict on May 11, the Constitution bench of the Supreme Court had said that it would not interfere in the disqualification proceedings against 16 Sena MLAs including CM Shinde and stated that the Speaker must decide the same within a reasonable period.
Despite over three months after the verdict, the Speaker is yet to take a decision on the petitions.
