A 64-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly raping a 21-year-old girl under the pretext of giving her money for treatment. The arrest was made on the basis of the complaint registered by the victims mother. The accused was produced in court on Wednesday and has been remanded in police custody till March 9.
According to the Kandivli police,Ramesh Chaturdas Seth,a resident of Mahavir Nagar had been approached by the victims mother through a mediator around two months ago as she required Rs 3 lakh for the treatment of her daughter,who was suffering from an unspecified illness.
Seth had told the victims mother that he would arrange for the money through a trust and on Tuesday he told them to meet him outside the Kandivli railway station.
Senior Police Inspector Surendra Jaiswal,Kandivli police station said,On Tuesday,Seth came in his car and met the two women outside Kandivli station. He then told the victims mother that only the patient can come along with him and that he would drop her back along with a cheque of Rs 3 lakh.
Seth then reportedly took the victim to a village near Gorai and offered her a drink that was allegedly spiked. After consuming the drink,the victim started feeling drowsy. In her statement she told us that she was taken to a bungalow in the village near Gorai and was raped by Seth. She said she tried to resist but the drug made her unconscious and that Seth had covered her mouth, said Jaiswal.
After committing the offence,Seth dropped her at the Borivali station. The victim,still in a dazed state,reportedly sat in a train to Churchgate and after several hours,when she came to her senses,she got down the train and called her mother. On Wednesday night,Seth was arrested from his residence and charged with rape.
