Songs for Dogs
The Stop-Gaps Choral Ensemble,the National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA) and the Welfare of Stray Dogs (WSD) will come together this Sunday evening at the NCPA in support of the WSD,an NGO that carries out,among other things,the sterilisation and vaccination of stray dogs in Mumbai. The Stop-Gaps Choral Ensemble of the Stop-Gaps Cultural Academy has put together a concert featuring a number of performers including Asif Ali Beg,Cyrus Broacha,DANCEWORX,Suzanne DMello and Caralisa Monteiro,and the proceeds will go to the WSD. The songs to be performed include some from musicals and others by pop singers. Among these are Memory from the musical Cats,Talk to the animals from Dr Dolittle,the popular How much is that doggie at the window and Dance from The Lion King. Tickets for the event are priced at Rs 500,Rs 800 and Rs 1,000.

It is a well-known fact that filmmaker Subhash Ghai and cinematographer Ashok Mehta had been good friends. They worked on a number of films together,such as Ram Lakhan,Saudagar,Khalnayak and Kisna. So Ghai holding a memorial event in Mehtas honour doesnt come as a surprise. The memorial event will be held at Ghais film and media institute,Whistling Woods International,on Monday,August 27. It will begin with the screening of audio visual on Mehtas life and his debut feature film Moksha. A discussion will then be held on the film and Mehta,which will be attended by Manisha Koirala and Arjun Rampal. There will also be an exhibition on display capturing Mehtas life and times in all its glory.
