They then entertained the inmates with a dance. The inmates enjoyed it. To the interactors’ surprise,Mrs Perere,the co-ordinator of all Interact clubs,also visited. She enlivened the spirit of the interactors who sang,When You are Happy and You Know It. Later,they also sang songs from old Bollywood movies. The inmates sang along. The most beautiful part was one of the inmates performed hand yoga exercises and the interactors were thrilled to see it.

The interactors danced with the inmates and served them home-made breakfast,which included poha,idlis,theplas,kheer,tea and biscuits. Before departing,the interactors gave each inmate a token of love (gifts) which contained things of their daily use such as toothpaste,toothbrush,hair oil,soap,napkin and talcum powder.

St Augustine’s students make school proud

Anikita Shinde and Pooja Dhamal,students of St Augustine’s High School,Nerul,were selected to represent the Indian National Football girls’ under 14 team under the banner of All India Football Federation for AFC (Asian Football Confederation) Cup,which was held in Sri Lanka from 4th March to 11th March 2013. They underwent rigorous training at undertrials camp for the same since 12 January 2013 at Thiruanantpuram under Indian National women’s coach. Players from all over country were part of the camp. The school felicitated these kids and wished them success.

International award for Vidyadhiraja High School

Vidyadhiraja High School,Bhandup (east) has won the prestigious ‘People Award’ of $2,500 at the School Enterprises competition conducted by the UK charity,TEACH A MAN TO FISH. Eight hundred schools from 40 countries participated.

The students of the school made incense sticks,branded them INNOSCENT,and sold them in the market and made a huge profit . With the profit,the school has already started a community centre to provide employment to women and the under-previledged. The centre was inaugurated on Sunday,17th March,2013 at the school premises.

The students gained immensely the rigours of starting and conducting a business enterprise right from the concept stage to its successful execution — complete with business plans,production,marketing,sales and financial audit.

The organisers praised the efforts of the teachers and students. Recently,the school also won the Internation School Award 2012-2015 from British Council.

Educational programme held at Vikas High School,Vikhroli

Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan is a Government of India flagship programme which helps schools to strengthen infrastructure with the help of maintenance grants and school improvement grants. Schools with inadequate teacher strength are provided with additional teachers,while the capacity of teachers is strengthened by extensive training,grants for developing teaching-learning materials and strengthening of the academic support structure at a cluster,block and district level.

Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan seeks to provide quality elementary education including life skills. It has a special focus on girls’ education and children with special needs. Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan also seeks to provide computer education to bridge the digital divide.

Under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan,an integrated educational exhibition was organised by Vikas High School on 15th March 2013 for students of Stds 5th to 8th. The students made projects in maths,science,English and other subjects.

The programme was organised by Vikas Raut,Director of Vikas Career College. Manjusha Patil,member of Parents Teacher Association was the Guest of Honour. The teachers and parents appreciated the efforts of the children for the exhibition.

Students worked on projects like innovative methods of generating electricity,speed energy,air pressure,water pressure indicator,etc.

The programme was appreciated by P M Raut and principal Vaishnavi Raut.
