A nine-year-old boy was crushed to death after he was run over by a school bus at Borivali West on Friday morning. The driver of the bus,Samit Thackeray,23,was arrested later in the day.
Police said the incident took place around 8.30 am,when the boy Bhaskar Vadari was cycling near the Reliance Energy office on Devidas Lane.
The school bus,on its way to pick up children,was heading towards the Sudhir Phadke Bridge at a high speed and it rammed into the bicycle from the rear. Only Thackeray and a cleaner were travelling in the bus when the accident occurred. Vadari,who fell unconscious,was rushed to Bhagwati Hospital,where he was declared brought dead.
Local people nabbed Thackeray and handed him over to the police. He was sent to Borivali jail after medical tests. The police said he was not under the influence of alcohol when the accident took place. Senior inspector Suresh Kilje said,We will be producing the accused in the court on Saturday. He has been booked for causing death due to negligence.
