Safety begins at home: city police chief

Talking at an event hosted by the Indian Merchants Chamber (IMC) in Mumbai Monday evening,Mumbai Police Commissioner Sanjeev Dayal said safety begins at home.

Referring to the Kurla rape and murder case in which three minor girls were kidnapped from the heavily-populated Nehru Nagar area and raped before being killed,Dayal said,“The youth can definitely help police by being alert about their surroundings and taking note of any suspicious people or movements in their locality. The idea of safety begins at home and one should take care about such things.”

At the event,Dayal also spoke to the public about the helpline set up to help women and elderly persons and the plans of the police to acquire helicopters for better policing. “We are also working on a project to install around 2500 CCTV cameras at various areas across the city. The police has indulged in a lot of capacity building projects in the wake of terror attacks of 26/11. We have acquired new weaponry,technology and vehicles to keep the city safe and secure.” Asked to comment on the attacks on movie halls across the city on Saturday by certain political elements,Dayal said the city police are in process of booking those responsible.
