RR Patil clarifies on blast case witness

Home Minister R R Patil has said that a witness brought to Mumbai in November 2008 in connection with the Malegaon blast case was in touch with his family

Home Minister R R Patil has said that a witness brought to Mumbai in November 2008 in connection with the Malegaon blast case was in touch with his family and the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) had submitted proof about this to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Patil was responding to questions regarding a case of kidnapping registered against ATS officials by the CBI. “The person who was a witness in the Malegaon case was brought to Mumbai. He then went away on his own and ATS has proof that he is in touch with his family. ATS is co-operating with CBI in investigation,” he said.

The CBI has registered an FIR against a few state ATS officers in connection with the mysterious disappearance of Dileep Patidar, who was brought to Mumbai in November 2008 for questioning in the 2008 Malegaon blast case.

Patidar, who was a tenant of Ramji Kalsangra — a fugitive in the September 2008 Malegaon blast, has been missing since an ATS team picked him up from his house near Bengali Chouraha in November 18,2008. Six days later, his brother Ramswaroop had moved a habeas corpus petition before the Indore bench of the Madhya Pradesh high court and alleged that Patidar was either in illegal custody of the ATS or died of torture in custody.
