Ritu Kumars new collection is fit for a queen
On Sunday evening Ritu Kumar was back to doing what she does best showcasing Indias imcomparable textile heritage. The show, held at Bandras Taj Lands End,presented the designers latest collection, inspired by the Taj Falaknuma Palace in Hyderabad. Kumar put on quite a show featuring a range of Indian traditional textile crafts, while beautiful Sufi,Rajasthani and Hyderabadi tunes played in the background. A high-profile show such as this would be incomplete without showstoppers; that duty was fulfilled by Dia Mirza and Shabana Azmi. While Mirza looked regal in her emsemble,Azmis dishevelled braid and busy outfit let her down badly. One of the classy white and gold outfits and a comb might have suited her better. The venue was packed, with Mumbais society ladies such as the newly-affianced Lara Dutta,Gul Panag,Queenie Singh,Haseena Jethmalani and Mandira Bedi,in full attendance.
Most of them came dressed for an evening of elegant revelry a notable exception was Nisha Jamvwal who came dressed for a primary school fairy play in her long tulle gown.
