Sakleys,a popular eatery in Nainital, nestled in a lush green and quiet hillside has opened a branch in Gurgaon with what else, but a mountain theme. The ceiling is covered with wood; their chocolate éclairs are old fashioned and slathered with fresh cream. Chirpy Elvis Presley songs add to the relaxed ambience.
A month-old in Gurgaon,Sakleys The Mountain Café can be difficult to locate but once youve figured out the way,you are sure to settle down for a quick meal. The lemony fragrance in the restaurant somehow makes the 10-seater eatery feel cooler and does sort of remind you of the hills. Sakleys was set up by a Swiss pastry chef in 1944 and my grandfather took over the property in 1954, says Amit Rekhi who now runs the eatery along with his brother Arjun.
So,when the brother-duo took charge, they decided to branch out to other cites while carefully maintaining the cafés old recipes. A generously stocked pastry counter offers blocks of layered cakes, chocolate truffles and cream filled éclairs all priced between Rs 55 and Rs 65 each. They also sell colourful plastic jars of homemade jam. Books, picture postcards and stacks of dried pine fruit are strewn across its small indoors.
The food menu at Sakleys is typical café food: toasted sandwiches, scrambled eggs, and coffees. The must-haves here include Beer Mountain scrambled eggs,Sherwood Surprise pizza and Rosewood Malai bun. Most of the food items are priced under Rs 100 unless you choose one of their generously stuffed burgers: the Cider Apple Veg burger with cheese and Old Stable ham cheese burger are priced at Rs 130 onwards.
Meal for two:Rs 400
