The woman, in various installments, gave a total of Rs 1.19 crore to him in cash and through online transfers. Mumbai police booked a man for allegedly raping a 26-year-old woman under the pretext of marrying her. The man also allegedly defrauded the woman of Rs 1.19 crore which he took from her in the name of investing in a business project.
The complainant woman, who is employed with a private firm, claimed that she met the accused man, who is in his early 30s, in 2022.
According to police, the two were in a relationship and the accused proposed to marry her.
The accused then took the woman to different hotels in Lonavla, Bandra and Vashi and, under the pretext of marriage, allegedly raped her, police said. After winning the woman’s trust, the accused told her that he wished to start a new business and needed money for the same. The woman, in various installments, gave a total of Rs 1.19 crore to him in cash and through online transfers, she said in her complaint.
The woman observed that the accused was ignoring conversations whenever she would talk about their marriage. She confronted him recently, and he told her that he would not marry her.
The woman eventually filed a police complaint, an officer said. The police have booked the accused under sections 318(2), 318(4), 64(2)(D), and 69 of Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) and are further investigation the matter.
