Raj attacks Bigg Boss over domestic help with Marathi surname

Maharashtra Navnirman Sena president Raj Thackeray has trained his guns on reality show Bigg Boss for depicting an actor who was asked to perform the task of a servant with a Maharashtrian surname.

Maharashtra Navnirman Sena president Raj Thackeray has trained his guns on reality show Bigg Boss for depicting an actor who was asked to perform the task of a servant with a Maharashtrian surname.

Thackeray told reporters on Saturday that this amounted to belittling Maharashtrians, but said he would not try to stop the show as the resulting controversy would help generate publicity for the channel and show. He has sought an apology from the producers of the show.

“We will not indulge in impulsive acts from which they will benefit, like stopping the show… Why do they need Maharashtrians to make fun of everything? Is it as if people from the other states do not work as domestic helps in their respective states?” Thackeray said and added that he had written to those concerned in this regard.

“I have told them to apologise in case they feel that they have committed a mistake. If they do not feel that they have erred,we will do something that will help them realise their mistake,” he warned.

The Shiv Sena had opposed the show last year for featuring Pakistani artistes Begum Nawazish and Veena Malik, and the Sena-affiliated Cable Operators and Distributors Association had blocked the screening of the channel.
