(Source: Instagram)Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for making a provision of Rs 23,778 crore for various railway projects in Maharashtra in the Union Budget 2025-26.
“The budgetary provision of Rs 23,778 crore for railway projects in the state will not only help us take a big stride in accomplishing development goals but also move towards ‘Viksit Maharashtra’ under the leadership of Modi,” Fadnavis said.
The allocation for railway projects is almost 20 times higher than Maharashtra’s rail budget provisions during 2009-14, with yearly average of Rs 1,171 crore,” he said.
Among the projects that will be expedited following the allocation include 191 new tracks. The 2025-26 budget has given the green signal for hundred per cent electrification.
The magnitude of the work can be ascertained as 2,150 km of new tracks in Maharashtra since 2014 is more than the entire rail network of Malaysia, Fadnavis underlined.
The ongoing projects include 47 entailing an expenditure of Rs 1,58,866 crore. Apart from that 132 Amrit stations at Rs 5,587 crore are being developed. In the last 10 years, 1,062 railway flyovers and underbridges have been constructed. In terms of passenger amenities, 236 lifts, 302 escalators and WiFi at 566 stations have been installed.
In addition, there are 11 Vande Bharat trains covering 19 districts with 30 unique stoppages in Maharashtra.
