Two commuters were found in a semi-conscious state in a reserved compartment of the Golden Temple Express Tuesday morning when the train reached Mumbai Central at 5.40 am. They were admitted to the BYL Nair Hospital and are out of danger. According to Railway Police,the duo was drugged by a co-passenger when the train left Kota.
The passengersChandan Mishra (25) and Bhagwan Singh Chowdhury (25) had boarded the train from Nizamuddin and Mathura Junction respectively.
Guddu Chowdhury,Chowdhury brother,said,My brother said a co-passenger had offered him and Mishra spiked tea. When they fell unconscious,he stole his 30-gram gold chain and Mishras gold chain and a ring.
Bhagwan is a masseur and a resident of Mumbai Central while Chandan Mishra,a Bhuleshwar resident,works in a salon. According to police,some RPF personnel have rushed the duo to Nair Hospital. Railway police are continuously trying to avoid such incidents. Even railways is carrying our many awareness programmes. I appeal to passengers not to take any eatables from co passengers, said senior police inspector Bharat Kumar Rane.
However,after continuous efforts,railway police have managed to curn such incidents to some extent.
This year,while WR recorded 7 such cases,CR registered 2.
In 2009,in both WR and CR,around 11 such cases 8 cases in CR and 3 cases in WRwere recorded collectively.
On April 2,2009,seven passengers of Punjab Mail were drugged by a co-passenger. They were admitted to Rukmani Devi Government Hospital in serious condition. The accused had looted cash and ornaments from them.
Similarly,on February 5,2009,Chhote Miyan Laughter show fame Saransh Bharadwaj and his father Ravi Brij Rattan Bharadwaj were drugged while travelling in the same train. He was on way to Mumbai to participate in the grand finale of the show.
