Centuries by openers Abhishek Kaushik and Sanjay Bangar along with a useful unbeaten knock by captain Jacob Martin helped promoted Western Railway ‘B’ pile a mammoth score of 453 for 5 against Mumbai Police on the first day of three day Times Shield ‘A’ division cricket tournament.

At the Police Gymkhana here on Tuesday,Kaushik and Bangar put together a 156-run stand for the third wicket before Kaushik became the victim of medium pacer Santosh Shinde.

His knock of 110 came off 119 balls was studded with a six and 20 hits to the boundary.

Then former India player Bangar and Jacob Martin added a 155-run partnership for fourth wicket. Bangar slammed an attacking 171 off 184 balls with help of two sixes and 24 fours.

At stumps,Western Railway were in commanding position with Martin unbeaten on 78.

In another match,a century by Onkar Khanvilkar saw Bharat Petroleum finished the opening day at 282 for 4 against Central Railway at Mahalaxmi ground.

Khanvilkar first put on 103 runs for third wicket with Shitanshu Kotak (85)and later added another 142 runs for the fourth wicket with Vinit Indulkar.

Khanvilkar splendid innings only lasted just before day’s play,his superb knock of 105 came in 283 minutes after facing 211 balls with the help of 14 fours.
