If his turn on last year’s MTV Unplugged — armed with an accordion, conducting a troupe of musicians, and crooning imaginative versions of his film numbers — elevated the show to another level, the channel has achieved a bigger coup for their 3rd season of Coke Studio. They have roped in AR Rahman to their already existing line of producers that include Amit Trivedi,Clinton Cerejo,Hitesh Sonik and Salim-Sulaiman. Not only will it see the maestro trying his hands at a new format,it will also mark his return to Indian non-film music after a long gap; his last being the album Connections in 2008. The composer will be seen producing a set of six original songs for the show, that is scheduled to start in July.
