The second edition of Mumbai’s first international literature fest,Literature Live,has grown bigger this year. And this weekend,it promises lots of author interactions,brainstorming sessions and performances. Events on Saturday include panel discussions on queer writing and the translation of books into films,the release of Sir Mark Tully’s book Non-Stop India,a reading by British poet Caroline Bird from her new set of poems and a performance of Sir Andrew Motion’s poems accompanied by the cello and bansuri. Sunday,the last day of the festival,will see a lecture by Siddhartha Mukherjee on his Pulitzer Prize-winning book,The Emperor of All Maladies,a reading of the poetry of Rumi,Rabindranath Tagore and Lal Ded by Ranjit Hoskote,Pritish Nandy and Farrukh Dhondy. The festival will culminate with a fast-paced comedy,titled Spent,on the financial crisis in Canada.

Everyday art

A UK-based artist,Simon Liddiment’s work comes out of a direct engagement with common,everyday things,some as abstract as a simple English word or a hand towel. This series of his most recent works,on display at Clark House,Colaba,includes hand-crafted objects,text-based works and a commercially printed billboard.
