The Winter Festive 2012 edition of the Lakme Fashion Week (August 3-7) will continue to celebrate Indian weaves and crafts. Previously,an Indian Textile Day was dedicated to showcase designers who use and promote Indian fabrics,textiles and handicrafts. This season will see a number of interactive and demonstrative workshops by artisans from different parts of India on August 5 and 6. Lending her support and participating in the initiative is Jaya Jaitly,founder and president of Dastkari Haat Samiti. Author of several books on Indian art and craft and marketing consultant for Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh Handicrafts and Handloom Corporations,Jaitly will also host workshops on Indian Textile Day with other industry experts. The panelists include designers Krishna Mehta,Maximiliano Modesti and Wendell Rodricks and textile conservationist Rta Kapur Chishti. There will also be demonstrations by G Govardhan,an ikat and Telia Rumal weaver from Andhra Pradesh,and tie-and-dye expert Aminaben from Kutch on August 5.

This month,the fourth edition of the Tarun Tahiliani Couture Exposition will begin with the unveiling of the designers Jewel Box,an edgy set made of glass and featuring the latest offerings from the Tarun Tahiliani bridal couture collection. The collection,which reinterprets the splendour of the age-old treasure box in a modern way,will be on display from July 25 to 28 in Delhi at DLF Emporio,and from August 6 to 7 in Mumbai at Mehboob Studio. The exposition will unveil the seasons newest trends,designs and jewel colours in bridal and occasion wear.
Expect a marriage of Indian cultural richness and modern glamour in the 35 Tarun Tahiliani couture creations.
