The City Sheriff’s office on Tuesday attached actor Sanjay Dutt’s flat in Pali Hill and office in Santacruz on the orders of the Bombay High Court’s Execution Department. Dutt had failed to compensate film producer Shakeel Noorani for not cooperating with him in completing his movie, causing him huge losses.

Noorani’s advocate Ashok Sarogi said: “Flat No 1101 at Imperial Heights in Pali Hill and Sanjay Dutt Productions office in Santacruz were attached on Tuesday. Dutt can appeal against the execution order to the High Court Prothonotary Department,or else the properties could be sold to reclaim the losses incurred by Shakeel,” said Sarogi.

The application moved by Noorani before the High Court department says on January 28 the executive committee of Indian Motion Picture Producers’ Association (IMPPA) passed an award in favour of Noorani. Dutt failed to challenge that order within 30 days and accordingly an execution application was moved by Noorani seeking to recover a sum of Rs 2,03,75,000 along with the interest rate at 18 per cent per annum from Dutt by attaching his properties.

“Noorani had signed Dutt for his film Jaan Ki Baazi and even paid a signing amount of Rs 50 lakh. But after half the film was shot,Dutt stopped cooperating and refused to give shooting dates. Noorani suffered huge looses and moved IMPPA,the sole arbitration authority for disputes arising out of its members and the Senior Artist Association,” said Sarogi. Dutt failed to appear before the committee, but also asked to refer the matter to CINTAA (Cine and TV Artist Association).

Even after repeated reminders, when Dutt failed to appear before the committee or repay the amount,IMPPA passed the award. Sarogi then moved the execution application in October following which the High Court department passed the order directing the Sheriff to execute the attachment.

Dutt’s lawyer Satish Maneshinde told Newsline they would move the court for appropriate action after the holidays.
