Suburban services of Central Railway towards Kalyan were disrupted during the morning peak hours on Thursday owing to a technical snag in the locomotive of the Mumbai-Pune Intercity Express.

Suburban services of Central Railway (CR) towards Kalyan were disrupted during the morning peak hours on Thursday owing to a technical snag in the locomotive of the Mumbai-Pune Intercity Express.

Seven services were partially cancelled while others were delayed by about 15-20 minutes. Agitated commuters further held up trains by detaining two local trains for around an hour each. Some commuters protested at Vithalwadi, holding up an Ambernath-CST local between 8.48 am and 10.05 am. Angry commuters detained a Karjat-CST local at Ambernath from 9.51 am-10.52 am. The first train could start from the affected site only at 10.54 am. “We heard the commuters were agitated, saying there were no announcements of the delay. GRP,RPF and railway station personnel were deployed at both locations to calm the situation,” said a CR spokesperson. Four services were partially cancelled and terminated at Kalyan while three services were short-terminated at Dombivli. The partially cancelled services were run as special trains towards CST,while mail and express trains were given a halt at all stations between Karjat and Kalyan during this period.

Last week,a fire in the signalling cabins of Kurla and Vidyavihar had affected signals on the stretch, majorly disturbing suburban rail services for nearly three days.
