Nine more Naxals surrender

Names of the surrendered Naxals are Akash alias Sainu Kowase, a member of Platoon 14; Subhash Podali, Kasansur dalam member; Irpa Kujur, member of Company 3 and husband of section commander of Company 4 Sindhu Gota; Rupesh Gota, Kasansur dalam member; Durgesh Vadde, Kasansur local militia man; Kanhu Pada, Kasansur dalam member; Raju Pada, platoon b-56 member; and Roja Korami, the police said in a statement.

The nine Naxals together had a reward of over Rs 30 lakh on their heads, according to Gadchiroli police.

Of them, Irpa Kujur is involved in 18 violent offences including encounters, blasts, murders and waylaying of a truck carrying explosions.

Inspector General of Police Ravindra Kadam told The Indian Express, “The significance of these surrenders is that seven of them have come from the Kotmi-Kasansur area, which has been one of the most difficult Naxal areas for the police for the last many years.”

“We have opened a new post at Kotmi in February and it has proved to be very effective. So far, we have had thirteen surrenders and six arrests from the area ever since the post has come up,” he added.
