Inspector General of Police Atulchandra Kulkarni, whose previous postings have included Anti-Naxal Operations, a United Nations peace keeping mission and 11 years as an intelligence officer, took charge as Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime), Mumbai on Tuesday.
Speaking to reporters soon after he took charge, Kulkarni said the efficiency of existing manpower was more important than the number of personnel in the Crime Branch.

The post had been vacant for a month, ever since Kulkarni’s predecessor, Sadanand Date, vacated it and left to serve in a central government deputation on February 16. A 1990 batch IPS officer, Kulkarni served two terms as DCP in Mumbai. Meanwhile, ADG of Police Param Bir Singh, who was with the State Reserve Police Force, took charge Commissioner of Police, Thane city.
