Mumbai watchman held for raping 13-year-old girl multiple times

Police said the watchman befriended the girl, obtained her mobile phone number and spoke with her over phone. He also somehow managed to get the girl’s photos.

Police said when the watchman asked her to come over to his place, the minor girl refused. The watchman threatened to defame the girl by circulating her morphed photos, said a police officer.

Police said when the girl went to his place on Friday, he molested her and forced himself upon her. He also threatened the girl with dire consequences if she told about the incident to anyone, said the officer.

After the girl told her parents about the incident, they approached police and filed a complaint.

Deputy commissioner of police (zone 10) Datta Nalawade said the Andheri police acted swiftly and arrested the watchman. Police said although the incident came to the fore on Friday, probe revealed that the watchman sexually molested her multiple times.

Police have booked the watchman under sections 376 (punishment for rape), 376(2)(J), 354(A) , 354(D) (pertaining to assault or criminal force with intent to outrage modesty) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC and under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

Police are checking if the watchman had targeted other girls.
