Mumbai University to issue new convocation certificates after spelling error in varsity’s name
The spelling error was spotted after the certificates reached the colleges. While there were some colleges which have already returned the erroneous certificates to varsity, there are a few who have already distributed these certificates among students.

The Mumbai University has recalled all the convocation certificates issued by it for the graduating batch of 2023-24 after several of them misspelled Mumbai as “Mumabai” over the logo.
The university will soon issue newly printed certificates.
“It has been decided to reprint all the convocation certificates. Thus, all affiliated colleges are requested to submit convocation certificates dispatched earlier, to the exam section. Newly printed corrected certificates will be issued as soon as possible,” a notification issued by the MU read.
As the Mumbai University’s convocation ceremony was held on January 7, convocation certificates were subsequently dispatched to affiliated colleges for its distribution to respective students. While some colleges hold institution-level convocation ceremonies for the same, many just distribute it to graduating students.

Some colleges which had their college-level convocations lined up are now forced to postpone it after the MU’s notification.
While the university claims that only 1,000 erroneous certificates were printed, the youth wing of Sena (UBT), Yuva Sena, claimed that over 1 lakh such certificates were printed, of which thousands were already sent to the affiliated colleges.
“Some of them have also distributed those erroneous certificates among students. The university has to ensure all erroneous certificates are brought back,” said Pradeep Sawant from Yuva Sena, who is also Mumbai University senate member.
Members of the students’ outfit met MU officials on Monday regarding the issues and submitted a memorandum, demanding a thorough investigation into spelling errors.
Sena (UBT) MLA Varun Sardesai also submitted a letter to Higher and Technical Education minister Chandrakant Patil demanding strict action against those responsible, and blacklisting of the private agency concerned.
