Meet your civic chief
Maharashtra’s Urban Development Secretary Manisha Mhaiskar spends a lot of her time in office meeting people about local issues related to the respective municipal corporations. Resolving these issues is often not in her hands, as they are often the prerogative of the urban local body concerned, but people still approach her. After hearing one such lament from a Thane resident seeking permission to construct a shed atop an old decrepit building to prevent monsoon seepage, Mhaiskar had had enough. The very day, she ordered her department to issue a government resolution reminding all municipal commissioners that it was their duty to meet residents and resolve grievances, adding that people formed opinions about the government based on such things. Now, as per her directives, municipal commissioners are required to reserve at least two hours every week to meet residents and hear their complaints.
Food without flight
A food festival at the domestic airport in Mumbai won’t be limited to travellers alone. The domestic terminal at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport is hosting a culinary showcase of Mumbai’s specialties until July 15. Those travelling from the terminal will of course have access to delights such as pav bhaji, missal pav and different chaats in an ambiance that is also reflective of the city’s vibe and milieu. With officers in Gandhi topi, airhostesses sporting the Maharashtrian nosepiece and an autorickshaw for an installation, the airport will attempt to recreate the megapolis in more ways than one. Commoners too can enjoy the festivities. But since the area is a high-security zone, they will need to pre-register and furnish their identity proof such as PAN card or passport.
Crime in Bollywood
They were archrivals in Sholay. But off the screen, Amitabh Bachchan and Amjad Khan, the legendary Gabbar, were known to be dear friends. This is also why Bachchan will be the guest of honour at the book launch of Khan’s son, Shadaab Amjad Khan. Shadaab has penned Murder in Bollywood, published by Penguin Books. A crime fiction set against the backdrop of Bollywood, a world Shadaab knows intimately, the book will be launched by Bachchan on Tuesday evening at Title Waves bookshop in Bandra.
