Water crisis
Bala Nandgaonkar of the MNS referred to the water crisis in Mumbai and said though the civic body claims it has imposed a 15 per cent cut,it actually translates to around 35 to 40 per cent. He alleged malls and towers are getting water but slums and chawls are facing a shortage. In an adjournment motion,Nandgaonkar also referred to the lathicharge,leading to a death,during an agitation at the BMC organised by Minister Narayan Ranes son. Speaker Dilip Walse Patil asked the government to make a statetment on the lathicharge.
Black caps
To protest the one-sided suspension of party legislators,MNS MLAs trooped into the House on Monday wearing black caps. Vasant Gite,Ram Kadam,Shishir Shinde and Ramesh Wanjale had been suspended for manhandling Samajwadi Party
(SP) MLA Abu Azmi in Mumbai for taking oath in Hindi.
Bridge repairs
A primary survey by the BMC has found that 58 of Mumbais bridges,of which22 come under the jurisdiction of the Central and Western Railways,need repairs on a priority. The BMC has asked the railway administration to take action. Of the remaining 36 bridges,all under the BMC,the pedestrian bridge at Sewri has been closed for pedestrians and will be demolished soon. The BMC has proposed a provision in the 2010-11 budget for repairs of old bridges,Chief Minister Ashok Chavan wrote in a reply to a question raised by Shiv Senas Ravindra Waikar and others.
