MU does it again, sends wrong question paper

Mumbai University (MU) disappointed its students yet again on Tuesday by sending wrong question papers.

Mumbai University (MU) disappointed its students yet again on Tuesday by sending wrong question papers. The students of fourth-year Instrumentation Engineering were taken aback when they received the question paper meant for second-year.

The question paper of Electronic Technology (ET),meant for second-year-semester IV students and scheduled on June 4,was given to fourth-year-semester VIII students who were appearing for Instrumentation System design (ISD) on Tuesday.

The varsity officials were alerted immediately by the respective examination centres after the goof-up came to light. As the exam was for both the old and revised course, the students were given old course question paper. “There are both old and new course students appearing for the ISD exam. While correct question papers were sent for students appearing for the old course, the goof-up happened in the case of new course question paper only, said a principal of one of the exam centres.

The principal said,“We identify the question papers through code numbers. It seems the code number of ISD paper of semester VIII was erroneously given to the ET paper of semester IV. And so the wrong question paper was sent.”

“This is not the first time that such a goof up has taken place. Even on Monday the varsity sent us a CD containing question paper for the fluid mechanics subject. However, when we opened the CD we found that they had forgotten to send the paper. It took almost 30 minutes for them to re-send the paper. Every day the exam starts late due to some or the other reason and its the students who are suffering,” said another principal.

While the students were given old course question paper they complained that questions worth 20 marks in the paper were out of syllabus and so they had to skip them.

“The syllabus for old course and new course are different. Luckily only two questions in the paper we got were out of syllabus still we had to skip 20 marks. Will university compensate these marks to us,” said a student.

When approached Dr Naresh Chandra Pro-Vice Chancellor of MU said the varsity officials are verifying the facts to find out what went wrong.

“There is no difference in both the papers and we have been told that there was just one difference, that too in the short notes. However,if students are claiming there were more differences we will verify it and take steps accordingly,” said Dr Chandra
