Mumbai recorded the season’s lowest temperature on Sunday as India Meteorology Department’s (IMD) Santacruz observatory recorded a minimum temperature of 16.1 degrees Celsius, one degree below normal.

This is the second time this week that the minimum temperature has fallen below normal. Earlier on January 16 (Tuesday) the city had recorded 16.2 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, Sushma Nair, scientist from IMD–Mumbai explained that the dip in temperature was the result of northerly components present in the air. Nair said Mumbai may also experience warmer days ahead.

“At present the minimum temperature is hovering between a pleasant 16 and 18 degrees Celsius, but there is a possibility of change in wind direction the coming week which may lead to a rise in both maximum and minimum temperatures,” Nair told Express on Sunday.

Meanwhile, as per IMD data, January usually records a lower minimum temperature. In 2022, the city recorded its lowest minimum temperature of 13.2 degrees Celsius on January 10, while on January 15 last year, Mumbai recorded a minimum temperature of 13.6 degrees.
