Despite cloud cover, maximum temperatures shot up in the city on Friday with Santacruz recording 36.3 degree Celsius (°C) while Colaba recorded 35°C.
As maximum temperatures rose to 38°C in Santacruz on April 15,temperatures in the suburbs as well as the island city have been around 33°C. However,on Friday, temperatures increased 3.5 degrees above normal in Santacruz and 2.6 degrees above normal in Colaba. Temperatures increased despite a cloud cover over the city since the beginning of the week.
The sea breeze, which controls the temperatures in the city, set in late and clouds, which could have lowered temperatures, were seen only in the latter part of the day. Thus, maximum temperatures increased, said VK Rajeev, director of weather forecast,IMD.
Minimum temperatures too were high with Colaba recording 27.8°C,2.7 degrees above normal while Santacruz recorded 26.6°C,2.4 degrees above normal.
