Man rapes wife’s niece on knife-point, arrested

The Mumbai Police have arrested a 35-year-old man for allegedly raping a 20-year-old niece of his wife on knife-point. The accused had threatened to kill the young woman and her family if she revealed to anyone about the incident.

According to the police, the complainant works in a private company to help her family.

She in her complaint to the police has said that a few months ago she had gone to stay at her aunt’s place.

On June 15, when she was alone at her aunt’s place, the aunt’s husband, who works with a private firm, came to the house and sensed an opportunity. He took a knife from the kitchen, and on knife-point raped the young woman.

The accused person also threatened her saying that he would kill her aunt, cousin and himself if she revealed anything about the incident to anyone, a police source said.

The young woman was scared and did not tell anyone about it until Saturday when she told her sister about it. Her sister then informed their mother about the incident. Victim’s mother then took the girl to the police station and filed a complaint.

On the woman’s complaint the police on Saturday evening arrested the accused person. The police are yet to recover the knife used in the crime.

The accused man has been charged under sections 376 (rape) and 506(2) (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code, said a police officer.
