A 30-year-old man was arrested by the Worli Police on Wednesday for allegedly cheating his friend and not returning loan worth Rs 27 lakh, which he had allegedly borrowed. The accused has been identified as Vishal Kasturi. The police are also on the lookout for Kasturi’s brother,Vikas.

In his complaint to the police, the complainant,Suresh Chinta, has alleged that in 2010,Kasturi,a stockbroker by profession, had taken a loan of Rs 27 lakh from him and had promised that he would transfer his BDD chawl residence in Worli in Chinta’s name if he was unable to repay the loan in six months.

Vishal was unable to pay the loan and was asked to transfer the house on Chinta’s wife’s name in March last year. He prepared a power of attorney and gave Chinta a NOC and also submitted relevant documents to the Public Works Department. However,he sought more time, which Chinta granted him.

Assistant Police Inspector Ravindra Wani of Worli Police Station said that Kasturi handed over nine cheques of Rs 2 lakh each to Chinta .

“Chinta then went to the PWD and asked them why the house was not transferred yet. He was informed that Vishal had submitted cancellation papers later and transferred the house on his brother’s name,” Wani added.
