The Mumbai Metropolitian Region (MMR) alone has the potential to become a 1.5 trillion dollar economy, Devendra Fadnavis said, speaking at the tenth Niti Aayog meet in New Delhi. The state government has evolved a three-phase comprehensive plan to achieve ‘Viksit Maharashtra 2047’ goal, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said on Saturday. The policies and reforms initiated by the state government will see Maharashtra become a trillion dollar economy by 2030 and five trillion dollar economy by 2047, he added.
The Mumbai Metropolitian Region (MMR) alone has the potential to become a 1.5 trillion dollar economy, Fadnavis said, speaking at the tenth Niti Aayog meet in New Delhi. The meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi was attended by Union ministers and chief ministers from across the country.
Underlining Maharashtra’s role in Viksit Bharat 2047 goal, Fadnavis outlined the phasewise roadmap in key sectors undertaken by him in the last six month since he took oath as CM on December 5 last year. “First we focused on good governance streamlining the faults in the administrative system within hundred days. And now we have given 150 targets to every department to achieve. It will be regularly reviewed and upgraded to bring accountability and transparency along with ease of doing business and making governance people-oriented,” he said.
“By 2030 given the current financial growth we will achieve the one trillion dollar economy goal by 2030 and five trillion dollar goal by 2047,” Fadnavis said, adding that under the new industrial policy, “our objective is to enhance GDP in the manufacturing sector to 20 per cent”.
He said that MAITRI 2.0 will ensure single-window clearance, while EV, semiconductor, green hydrogen and data centres among others will be sectors that will get fresh impetus.
“In the first three quarters of 2024-25, Maharashtra received Rs 1.39 lakh crore FDI. At the WEF held in Davos, Maharashtra signed MoUs for investments worth Rs 15.96 lakh crore. We are focused on infrastructure and employment… Samruddhi Mahamarg, coastal road, Navi Mumbai Airport, Metro railways, multimodel logistic hub among others,” he said.
“Even two and three-tier towns are being developed. While Gadchiroli is going to become a steel hub, Nagpur a defence hub, Amravati a textile hub, Raigad will be developed as a smart industrial city, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar as a EV hub,” Fadnavis stressed.
