Faiz Ahmed Faiz remains an inspiration for poets and writers even today. But the works of the Pakistani poet, who passed away in 1984,remain accessible only to Urdu speakers. To bridge this gap and to mark his birth centenary,Faiz Ki Biradari,a group of cultural activists, will be launching the book Sab Taj Uchale Jayange,Sab Takht Giraye Jayenge: Faiz Ahmed Faiz—Jeevan Ani Kavya.

Featuring an assortment of articles and essays on the Pakistani poet’s life,it will also have Marathi translations of Faiz’s poems on the subjects of romance and politics. “Faiz is very popular with the literatti,” says Rashmi Diwekar of Faiz Ki Biradari, adding,“This is our attempt to bring Urdu poetry to the Marathi masses who are still unfamiliar with his work.”

To be held at PL Deshpande Sahitya Academy in Prabhadevi, the launch event will have a talk by Professor Zahir Ali,author of Talmihaat-e-Faiz,the great poet’s biography,in addition to poetry recitals and ghazals.
