Late cut

When you are born into the illustrious Kapoor family of Bollywood, you cannot stay away from the silver screen for long. Erstwhile actor Shammi Kapoor’s son Aditya Raj Kapoor too seems to have realised this. Aditya, who always chose to stay away from the glitzy and glamorous world of films, will be making his acting debut at the age of 53 with the Jag Mundhra-directed Chase. “I wanted to understand life and look at it from another viewpoint. I wasn’t ready to act, rather,I wasn’t prepared,” he says. “But now I feel I am ready to begin my film career.” And with the quality of content in films reaching newer heights,he is sure to find his spot in the sun.

Aditya, who has directed films like Shamaal,Sambar Salsa and Don’t Stop Dreaming,in the past,is thrilled about doing characters with grey shades. “I will be playing a state-of-the-art villain,” he states proudly, while telling us that his peppery hair will add to the villainous effect. Besides Chase,Aditya has two other films up for release this summer — Mumbai 118 and Deewangee Ne Hadd Kar Di. “Mumbai 118 is about an elderly builder who falls in love with a very young bar dancer and how he comes to terms with life. In Deewangee,I play an underworld don.”

A fourth film is also in the pipeline, but he feels it is too early to talk about it. Aditya, who, for a long time, was busy constructing amusement parks in the country and also working towards child education, got his first dose of the Hindi film industry when he was working alongside Raj Kapoor as an assistant. “It was an enriching experience,” he reminisces. And about his father,he says,“My dad is happy that I am doing films. When I told him about my projects,he told me,‘Finally, you have returned home’.” We couldn’t agree more.
