Kolkata man held for duping photographers

Kolkata native Pradip Ghosh (37) has been arrested by Matunga Police for allegedly stealing electronic goods worth Rs 4 lakh from three city photographers.

Kolkata native Pradip Ghosh (37) has been arrested by Matunga Police for allegedly stealing electronic goods worth Rs 4 lakh from three city photographers.

Police said Ghosh lured the three with the promise of an assignment and sold the stolen goods to buy drugs.

He would search for photographers online and first struck in November last year.

“Ghosh would meet photographers at a restaurant in Dadar saying he wanted to do a shoot. He would ask them to meet him again the next day with cameras at another restaurant,where he would offer them a drink laced with a medicine. As the photographers would go to the bathroom to vomit,Ghosh would flee with their equipment,” said senior inspector Raghavendra Thakur. In April and June,Ghosh stole cameras and laptops from two others.

“Ghosh is a drug user from a well-to-do family. He was arrested for the same crime in Kolkata in 2009,” Thakur said.

He also struck in Bangalore,New Delhi and Mumbai after being released. Police tracked his location to Kolkata two weeks ago. “We told his older brother to call him saying their mother was ill. When Ghosh arrived home,he was nabbed by plainclothes policemen,” Thakur said.
