JUST MARRIED

It was. I’d never wanted get married in a conventional way. And I had always wanted to have a blast on my wedding...

One of the most star-studded events in the industry, was your wedding to businessman Shakeel Ladak true to what you’d dreamed of?
It was. I’d never wanted get married in a conventional way. And I had always wanted to have a blast on my wedding, without having to go through any stress. And the five days of ceremonies, parties and the wedding were the most awesome and memorable days of my life.

So did you both plan everything?
We did have a wedding planner but Shakeel and I wanted to be a part of every decision that was taken — from what flowers and colours would dominate the functions to what songs will be played. We planned everything to the T and then our family and friends helped us out.

How much planning went into your outfits?
That was one department I didn’t even look into. All my outfits were done by my friends Ashley Rebello and Vikram Phadnis. They took over that responsibility since they thought it was the best gift they could give me. And having designed for me plenty of times before, the measurements weren’t a problem either. Till the day before I was to wear the outfits,I had no idea what they’d look like. Vikram and Ashley merely gave me guidelines for shoes, jewellery and make-up and the rest was a surprise.

With 27 days spent in Europe, was your honeymoon as grand as your wedding?
It was anything but grand since we did a road trip, but it was great fun. The idea was Shakeel’s who often goes on road trips across the globe with his friends. This time,he wanted me to experience the fun too. We travelled across Europe, seeing the most beautiful places, but the loveliest was Capri in Italy.

Europe’s a great shopping destination too. Did you return with bags full of goodies?
In fact,it was the other way round. Both of us wanted our honeymoon to be quality time spent with each other. We can always shop on other trips. Besides, shopping isn’t feasible when doing a road trip so we kept it minimal.

Has the fact that you’re now married sunk in?
It has. It does feel a bit different because now everything is about ‘us’ as opposed to ‘I’ when we’re single or even dating. All decisions are taken keeping the spouse in mind. It helps that I am still living in Bandra, but I can’t ignore the fact that Shakeel has made this change smooth and easy for me.

Does Shakeel feel like an outsider in your world of glamour?
Not at all, especially since he’s always had friends from the industry. Besides, none of my friends make him feel like an outsider — he’s always been welcomed and received warmly. Anyway he now knows most of my circle so things have fallen into place swiftly.

Are you back at work?
I am indeed and I’d like people to know that marriage isn’t going to come in the way of my career. I may get picky and work at a more comfortable pace but I can’t imagine my life without movies.
