The maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) has appointed PriceWaterHouse Coopers to make recommendations regarding uniform power tariff in Mumbai. The state government,which had approached the MERC regarding its suggestion for implementing uniform power tariff,is awaiting the PWC report,Energy Minister Ajit Pawar said in a writt en reply.

Website to tackle dropping sex ratio

Minister of State for Public Health and Family Welfare Fauzia Khan said the government would launch a website,aamchimulgi.com,to register complaints of sex selection and foeticide. She said various departments needed to work together to counter this “social evil”. Minister for Public Health Suresh Shetty said the government was “examining” the background of the non-MLA and non-government members of the state-level monitoring committee,the formation of which has been pending for a year.

Few takers for Marathi schools

School education Minister Rajendra Darda said there were 1,729 Marathi medium primary schools in the state with less than nine students and 7,287 Marathi medium secondary schools with 10-19 students. He also said the government had received nearly 4,000 proposals for English medium schools but had not approved any of them. The minister also said the government had prepared a “master plan” under the Right To Education Act to streamline school education.
