By moving to Maharashtra Nature Park, the Farmers Markets fourth season promises an experience in tune with its theme.
I cant be bothered to keep explaining to Bandraites why Ive moved the Farmers Market away this year, says Kavita Mukhi, organiser of the Farmers Market in Mumbai. But not everyone is unnerved by the decision to move the market from its regular spot a bungalow on Hill Road,Bandra to Maharashtra Nature Park,Dharavi. The park is more centrally located and is in tune with the theme.
Yes,the name Dharavi does conjure up images of slums, the smell of leather (among other things) and the din of traffic jams leading into Sion. But Mukhi is sure that the fourth season of the Market is going to draw a lot of people. The bungalow was too small to accommodate the crowd, says Mukhi. There wasnt enough space for the farmers to display their produce,or for visitors to lounge around, she adds.
The new location is more connected to different parts of Mumbai and is a half-acre ground called Nakshatra Van with ample parking space. This allows the Market to allot more space to the vegetable sellers,in addition to add more room for food, beverage and lifestyle product stalls.
The Market starts on October 7. In the following weeks it will be held in two other locations Jai Hind College,Churchgate, and a yet to be decided spot in Andheri.
