Since its formation in 2009,Gillo Theatre Repertory has been working on plays that showcase original Indian content and has been making theatre more accessible to children. After staging the play She-He-Shey in Kolkata and Shantiniketan, they are back at Prithvi Theatre with three plays scheduled on October 1 and 2.

She-He-Shey,an English-Hindi-Bengali play,is a stage adaptation of Rabindranath Tagore’s story Shey. The book is a collection of adventure stories written for his nine-year-old granddaughter,Nandini. Adapted and directed by Shaili Sathyu, the play will be staged on October 1 at 6 pm and 9 pm at Prithvi Theatre. The following day,Gillo along with Tram Theatre will present the play Mind Your Head in Object Theatre,a form of storytelling that uses items not necessarily meant for art and learning but are mere utilities.

Gillo’s third presentation will be Hanuman Ki Ramayan, directed by Devendra Sharma based on Devdutt Pattanaik’s story in the Swang Nautanki format — a traditional performing art from north India. It follows Valmiki who fears that no one will read his Ramayan after he discovers that Hanuman has written a better version. Mind Your Head plays at 5 pm and Hanuman Ki Ramayan will be staged at 8 pm on October 2.
