Campus Talk | IIT Bombay launches online PGD in Computer Science and Engineering, classes to begin in June
Though the course is offered in online mode, the ePGD will culminate with a graduation ceremony on IIT Bombay campus and alumni status will be conferred on successful candidates.

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay on Monday launched the e-Postgraduate Diploma (ePGD) in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) course. The online ePGD course is slated to start in June and enrolments are now open.
The CSE at IIT Bombay is the most sought-after branch of engineering education, especially for the undergraduate (UG) students. IIT Bombay’s decision to launch ePGD in this discipline is going to be a golden opportunity for engineering graduates across various backgrounds to learn this online course designed and delivered by IIT Bombay’s CSE faculty.
Even as the course is offered in an online mode through an ed-tech partner, this ePGD will culminate with a graduation ceremony on campus, where alumni status will be conferred on candidates successfully completing the ePGD requirements.
According to information shared by the IIT Bombay, “This ePGD is tailored for software developers, data scientists, machine learning practitioners, IT professionals, engineers, fresh graduates and technically adept individuals who seek to deepen their understanding and formalise their knowledge through a postgraduate diploma. The course requires candidates to complete six courses through a mix across Advanced Programming, Computing Systems, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.”
Eligibility requires candidates to hold a BE, BTech, or BS (4 years), or a higher degree in relevant fields of Computer Science and allied fields.
In the absence of this, prospective learners with a BE, BTech, BS (4 years), or equivalent in any engineering discipline may also be considered subject to them fulfilling qualifying conditions. IIT Bombay has already launched three ePGDs prior to this. Professor Shireesh Kedare, Director of IIT Bombay, said the ePostgraduate Diploma in Computer Science and Engineering is a significant step towards democratizing access to high-quality computer science education. “This ePGD extends the opportunity for working professionals and aspirants beyond our traditional campus students to deepen their expertise in areas like advanced programming, computing systems, Artificial Intelligence and machine learning. Through a rigorous curriculum that mirrors our on-campus standards and innovative online delivery, we are empowering a diverse and geographically dispersed audience to advance their careers while maintaining the academic excellence IIT Bombay is known for.”
Mohan Lakhamraju, founder and CEO of Great Learning which is the ed-tech partner of IIT Bombay to offer this ePGD, said, “With distinguished faculty and a rigorous curriculum, this programme is designed to empower learners to sharpen their skills, expand their expertise, and advance their careers through a flexible, innovative learning experience”.
