Husband held for woman’s suicide

Four persons,including the husband of a 20-year-old woman who committed suicide on Friday,were arrested by Meghwadi police in connection with her death. The deceased,Archana Giri,had hanged herself at her Andheri (East) residence.

The police arrested Archana’s husband Vikaskumar,father-in-law Somnath,mother-in-law Shakuntaladevi and sister-in-law Guddan in connection with her suicide. The police initiated action after Archana’s father filed a complaint with the police saying that his daughter was being harassed by her in-laws.

“Archana’s father came to Mumbai from Gujarat,where he resides,and said she took the extreme step after she was harassed for dowry. Besides registering a case against the four for abetting her suicide,we have also booked them for dowry harassment,” Bhimrao Jadhav senior police inspector at Meghwadi police station said.

Archana and Vikaskumar were married three years ago. The couple had moved to Mumbai in January last year.
