Shiv Sena corporator and Mayor Sunil Prabhu has made a list of demands including financial aid for the smooth functioning of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) in a meeting held with Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan on Tuesday.

The newly elected Mayor demanded that the city be provided with at least three helipads,which can be used during disasters. The fire brigade,police officials and other disaster cell officials should be provided with a special lane,which can function as a helipad in case of disaster or accident situations. Atleast one helipad zone should be set up in each of the suburbs and the island city by the state government, Prabhu said.

In case of disasters,the disaster mitigating agencies face lot of problems due to traffic congestion. If helipads are available,they will find it easier to ferry injured people or materials quickly to the desired destination, he said.

Regarding proposals to increase the fares for BEST and rates for electricity,Prabhu urged the CM to provide a financial aid package for the BEST services.

Mayor also urged the CM to help expedite the granting of occupation certificate (OC) to over 12,000 houses,constructed after 2001. There is a need for housing in the city,and the delay in granting the OC to these structure is causing a scarcity of homes, Prabhu said.

The list of 26 demands put forth to the CM also include provision to reserve open spaces in the Development Plan for religious structures in the city,allowing the BMC to construct low cost housing and transit camps along the lines of MHADA and MMRDAs transit homes.
