When a show featuring eight of Bollywoods biggest stars starts on time (or rather, only an hour late),you know youre in for a great time if not a lesson in high fashion. As fashion doyennes and sundry guests watched Salman Khan,Aamir Khan,Saif Ali Khan,Sanjay Dutt,Govinda,Ajay Devgn,Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif walk the catwalk for Salmans Being Human charity,it became obvious that the show was more about counting stars than counting blessings.
Shutterbugs went into paroxysms of joy at the sight of the Tinsel-towners showing off Being Human merchandise and doing a little jig for the benefit of the cameras. The loudest cheers went up for Salman, dapper in a suit (we wish hed go formal more often) and Aamir, who kept it casual with a jeans and T-shirt. The collection that did manage to grab our attention was the Shane and Falguni Peacock line featuring prints of Salman Khans paintings, with a special mention for the flowing gown, with the embellished illusion neckline worn by Kaif. Gavin Miguel proves to be one of the countrys more underrated designers, while Rocky S and Babita Malkani also presented.
However,it was Pallavi Jaikishans show earlier in the evening that really put the couture in India Couture Week. The gorgeously embellished sari dresses, kurtas and lehengas were fit for a princesss trousseau. Our particular favourites were the floaty and feminine saris in lace and tulle and the uber hot chiffon sari-dress. The grandeur of the clothes was beautifully set off by the mounted jewellery, also created by Jaikishan each individual component was collected by the designer from across the world. Jaikishan added drama by having her showstopper Nayanika Chatterjee sashay down wearing a veil lit up with fairy lights.
Apt for a fairy-tale evening.
