With the third anniversary of the 26/11 terror attack approaching, the Bombay High Court on Thursday gave a number of suggestions to the state government to enhance security at courts in the state. The Bench of Justice S A Bobde and Justice V K Tahilramani was responding to a set of petitions filed by various activists, which demanded better security measures for the city in view of the 26/11 attack and the more recent 13/7 blasts.
Two major steps which can be taken could be isolation of vehicles near the court premises and regulation on the entry of unidentified persons, Justice Bobde said.
Later, responding to the contention made by Advocate General Ravi Kadam that there are financial difficulties in having security at the High Court like that of the Supreme Court, the judge said,In many places, core and non-core security areas are created. Security can be stricter in the core areas.
Citing the case of the Nagpur Bench of the court, the judge also suggested that baggage scanners at the entrances should be of the same size as those at airports to avoid congestion.
