This Swamiji, at 83,is set to play a cricket match against the Bombay Gymkhana cricket team next week. He can gulp a huge chocolate bar and has no complaints of any ailments. “For the past 60 years, his weight has not exceeded 67 kg,and his waist size is 32 inches,” say disciples, who have been following his way of life for years.

Meet Swami A Parthasarathy, philosopher and a spiritual guide to thousands of corporate achievers, celebrities and students, and the founder of Vedanta Academy in Karla,Lonavala. For 40 years now,Parthasarathy has made it his business to travel around the world and implore people to “think and develop their intellect so that they learn to rise above the crisis and overpower the havoc that the mind creates”.

“Every year, engineering students pass prestigious engineering schools around the world,” he says,“but it takes a single man to design the Eiffel Tower. Why? While most of us acquire intelligence, only a few develop intellect. And the loss of this intellect is the root cause of all human downfalls- be it stress, depression, disease or economic breakdown and act of terrorism,” he adds.

Parthasarathy has written several books on the philosophy of Vedanta —which explains the eternal principles of life and living. His discourses on Vedanta and the preachings of the Bhagwad Gita, his self-management courses, often sees full house in India and abroad and are attended by corporates worldwide.

From Monday to Friday this week,Parthasarathy will organise one such open-for-all discourse of Bhagwad Gita in Mumbai’s Ravindra Natya Mandir,Prabhadevi.

“The problem with humanity is that we choose to follow herd mentality. Most of us live life not by using intellect, but by following what is fed to us. No wonder,so many businesses are going down and on personal front the western world sees 70 percent failures regarding marriage,” the guru said.

The corporate guru of sorts is now working on an unusual book for management students that will put the idea of ‘think outside the herd’ in their minds.

“This book was written by Swamiji between 4 am and 6 am everyday. This is the time when the thought process is the sharpest and the intellect is fresh. Swamiji has always done important work during this time,” his followers say.
